The LaKey Life

Who’s LaKey?

I am 30-something with no clue as to what I want to do with my life, and being a Jill of all trades doesn’t help any with that either. I got the name LaKey (pronounced luh-kee) from a professor who shortened my name LaKeshia to not confuse me with the other girl named Keshia who was in the same class. That was over 10 years ago, and I didn’t think of it again until I needed a name for this blog.

I’ve started writing blogs before, but I would always abandon them because I always got in my head that no one wanted to hear what I had to say or would judge me based on what I DO say. I also thought what I had to say wasn’t important. I also thought that the blog game was oversaturated, and I wouldn’t be able to get enough traffic to my blog. But now, I am like F all that! I am no longer afraid of what people may say about me, and I am no longer entertaining my own self-defeating thoughts.

I created this blog to showcase the full Black experience, an holistic view of being a Black woman in the South. I wanted to share my stories and tips to help other people find their way without going through the trials and tribulations that I have gone through. I’ll discuss love, career, religion, spirituality, and everything in between. I am dedicated to being transparent, showing my successes as well as my failures. Because, well, that is life. So, without further ado, welcome to The LaKey Life!
