Last month I went on a girls’ trip to Jamaica-Montego Bay to be exact. I’m proud of myself for actually going. Usually I talk myself out of things like this, especially since COVID is still running rampant. I’m really sick of that ho. I’m ready to go outside. Get vaccinated, y’all!
THE BACKSTORY
An old coworker of mine had been talking about going to Jamaica for years, and I always told her that I would go with her. Well, March this year, she posted on social media that she was going and invited whomever wanted to go. I once again said that I would go, thinking that no one else would really go. Other people also stated that they wanted to go. I began thinking that I didn’t want to go. But then I remembered a dream I had in January.
In the dream, I was sitting at a table with other women, and I was the only Black woman. We were all talking about how much fun we had and how we need to do a trip every year. What stood out in the dream was one of the women was a redhead, and guess what, my old coworker has red hair. After recalling the dream, I couldn’t do anything but laugh because my spirit team knew that I would try to back out or talk myself out of the trip. I took it as a sign to go, and boy am I glad I did. Let me tell you about the trip though.
THE TRIP
There were COVID precautions, of course, so I made sure I was fully vaccinated and got tested to make sure I wasn’t positive for the virus before flying. When I got to Montego Bay or MoBay, it was raining due to a passing tropical storm. That was ok because I was tired and wanting to rest from all the traveling. We stayed at the RIU Reggae, an adults only all inclusive resort. Nothing special happened this day other than me getting a much-anticipated Miami Vice, a frozen drink mixture of Pina Colada and strawberry daiquiri.
The next day we had a catamaran excursion planned. I was excited until I saw the water and the little boat we had to get on before we got to the catamaran. SIDE NOTE: I cannot swim, and I stay away from possible drowning activities. I’m freaking out. I shake that off because I already paid for it and I’m trying new things now. I get on the catamaran, and the deck is sloped. So, ummmm I sat in one spot and didn’t move for most of the excursion, which was 4 hours. Don’t judge me. Like my daddy always says, someone has to live to tell the story.
My third day was mostly me lounging around the hotel. I sat poolside with the girls and drank a couple of cocktails. Unfortunately, the heat and I aren’t really friends, so I stayed in my room most of the day unless it was chow time.
The fourth day was my favorite day. It was exploration day. We started our da with beef and cheese patties from a drive -thru restaurant called Juici Patties. We then went horseback riding. I was super nervous because I haven’t been on a horse since I was about 5, which was *cough* 30+ years ago. My saddle sliding, and the horse’s temperament didn’t help either. They fixed the saddle, and I felt more secure until they led the horse into the water. Why would they do that? *sigh* They kept leading the horse deeper and deeper in the water. My anxiety kicked in. They finally start towards the shore, but guess what? The horse is not moving. He wants to stay in the water, which I understand. It was almost 90° that day. He finally went back to the shore, and the rest of the ride went without a hitch.
Later that day we went to White River and climbed the waterfalls, which was a relief from the scorching sun.
I checked something off my bucket list by going my bamboo rafting. It was a great experience except for the scare we had. A crab fell into my raft, and it looked like a huge spider in my peripheral. LOL Once again, don’t judge me. I don’t do spiders or those flying roaches. They both can go to hell.
Back to the trip, our tour guide took us to a restaurant on the strip for dinner, and OMG it was so good. I had eaten brown stew chicken on the second day. While it was good, the rice and peas were lacking. This place was good all around. To end the day, we went to the Luminous Lagoon. which is where the water glows in the dark when disturbed.
THE VERDICT
I loved my girls’ trip to Jamaica. I was able to do things that I wouldn’t normally do due to my fear and tendency to talk myself out of things. The tour guide for the trip made things worry-free, and I felt safe. I will consider having one every trip from now on if possible. The only thing I didn’t do on the trip and would have liked to is zipline, but I can do that anywhere. Would I like to vacation in Jamaica again? Ehh, I don’t know. This was my second time to the island, and I want to check another destination off of my bucket list. With that being said, look out Greece cause I’m coming for ya next year!
As always, talk to you later, ladybugs!
