Some people may want to know how I got into tarot, and to be honest, I really don’t remember. All I know is the thought just came to me early March 2020. I began my journey by looking for a deck that resonated with me on Amazon and came across the Muse Tarot deck. I thought it was so unique and beautiful. Venus rules my birth chart, so I’m in love with anything pretty. The deck hadn’t been released yet, so I preordered it and received it in April.
When I received the deck, I didn’t open them right away. I decided to open them two days later on Easter Sunday. Even though I bought the cards myself, I was still skeptical. To be quite honest, I was kind of scared. Let me give some you context. I’m from Alabama, smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt, and if people down here don’t understand something, then it is “of the devil.” It is shunned, demonized, or just plain out, rejected.
Trying to get away from that stigma, I still decided to “play” with the cards. However, the weather that night didn’t make it any better. It was storming outside. When I say storming-I mean “the lights can go out at any minute” storming. Still being a little bit scared at the time, I was hoping that the lights did not go out on me while I was “playing” with the cards.
I don’t know if I told y’all, but I’m prone to seeing spirits and didn’t want to see one on a dark, stormy night. I actually stopped watching horror movies because of this, and I love horror movies. But anyway, I was still leery about using tarot cards. Still shook, I put them down for a couple of weeks and began looking at tarot readings on YouTube. So, in one of the videos-I don’t remember who the reader was-said and I’m paraphrasing that she was picking up Easter and she wasn’t sure why because it is a religious holiday. And then, she said-and I didn’t believe this-that you may have actually picked up tarot on Easter. I was like, 😮. Wait a minute! Huh?
Even though I am a full blown skeptic and have adopted the “You have to show me ” mantra, I took this as a sign. I started watching Pick A Card readings on YouTube and working on my intuition. Unfortunately, the cards (all 78 of them) still overwhelmed me. So, I have to tell you that I’m a bit of a perfectionist. It took a while for me to figure that out about myself, but I really don’t like messing up.
I don’t remember how, but I came across a beginner’s tip about reading the cards intuitively and realized that this is the best form of reading for me. I downloaded a tarot app on my phone, a beginner’s eBook, and started pulling 3 cards daily. Within 6 months, I became comfortable with reading myself and had upgraded from 1 deck to about 10 decks (a collection of tarot and oracle cards). I’m still learning and as with life, will continue to learn.
