I recently setup another subscription account, but this time it was with for rocksbox. rocksbox is a jewelry subscription service where you rent jewelry and have the option to buy the pieces that you rented. Here’s the rocksbox review.

THE PROCESS
Starting a subscription with rocksbox is fairly easy. There is only one plan, which is $21/month and you get to use that towards the purchase of any jewelry piece or so I thought. You can wishlist or -in other words- like items that you would like to be sent in future boxes. I wishlisted I believe 15 items and received a $5 forever credit, which is a $5 credit that I would have monthly. I also selected which items I wanted to receive in my first box. That was easy enough. I selected three pieces from Sophie Harper, which is rocksbox’s exclusive brand.
THE PACKAGING
I setup my account on September 20th and received the package on September 26th. Great delivery time, right? Yeah, but that meant I only had 4 days to use my monthly credit or lose it. I didn’t know this until after I received the package. I was thinking that rocksbox was like other subscription boxes where they had a specific schedule that they sent out items monthly, but nope. The packaging was plain but very cute and modern. It’s very understated with a white mailer and black bold letters stating “You have really good taste.”
Each piece was secured in an appropriate sized plastic bag inside of a dust bag. Out of the three pieces, I only liked one and I had to make a decision quickly because I only had 4 days left to use my monthly credit.
THE PIECES
Sooooo, what about the jewelry? Well, 2 out of the three were MEH. The necklace was too short and sat right in the roll of my neck. Everybody wasn’t blessed with a lean neck. The earrings looked like they were made for a toddler. They were just too small. I guess both pieces were just too dainty for me. But when I pulled that bracelet from that bag, I knew she was the one for me, and Stephanie Mills started playing in my head. Cue “I never knew love like this before.” That baguette slider bracelet makes me feel like a rich bi…..well you know the rest.
THE REALITY
I received my second box and didn’t like any pieces, so I searched the website to find a piece to use my monthly credit. And, boy, was I disappointed? I found out that you can only use your monthly credit on one of the 3 items that was sent to you. Your credit does not apply to any other item on the site. So it really looks like you would be forfeiting your $21 just about every month unless you like something from your delivered box. So essentially, rocksbox is a jewelry rental subscription box because they make it completely hard to use your credit. Most of the jewelry items can only be put on a wishlist and not bought right then, which makes it even harder to find something to buy. Sooooo, long story short, I cancelled after 2 months.
If you would like to try out different types of jewelry, then rocksbox is for you. But for those that like to get value out of their money and like to buy items, this may not before you. If you like reviews, check out my review on the Scent Box. As always, talk to you later, ladybugs!
